En route to Nizwa, visit the pretty village of Birkat Al Mauz situated at the foothills of Jebel. Nizwa, capital of the interior, is the birthplace of Islam in the Sultanate of Oman. Nizwa boasts of the famous Round Tower Fort, built in the 17th century, and its Souq renowned for the Friday cattle auction, intricately hand-carved “Khanjars” (daggers) and ornamental silver jewellery. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the way. Proceed in an easterly direction towards Sur, via Izki, Sinaw Souq and Mudhaybi. Arrive mid afternoon in the Wahiba Sands, a vast mass of undulating sand dunes rising up to 200 metres.

DAY 06
After a leisurely breakfast at the Desert Nights Resort, set off for Sur. Stop off at the harbour, dhow factory and Sansella Fort. The ruins of Bibi Miriam’s Tomb can be seen at the village of Qalhat, on the coastal road to Muscat. Stop for a swim and a picnic lunch at Wadi Arbayeen, before returning to Muscat.
